WELCOME NEW HAMS!!
Some new amateur radio operators are reluctant to jump onto a repeater the first few times. Even more experienced operators from outside our area may be shy about using “the 1-5”, “the 2-3”, or the other local repeaters just because they don’t know us all personally or aren’t aware of our customs. If they only knew how relaxed and welcoming our area operators are, I think they would be very comfortable getting onto one of the local machines to “throw their call sign out.” The fact is, we find it rewarding and fun to talk with new operators and those from other areas. If you are reading this, please know that the East Alabama Club and the private repeater owners locally encourage and invite you to use our area’s repeaters. Actually, no invitation is needed! As far as “customs” are concerned, we are flexible and relaxed. We don’t have “Rules” for repeater use, just a list of Best Practices that you can see at THIS LINK. Y’all come on over and say hello! Check the Repeaters and Nets page on this site for frequencies and details.
Checklist Forms for Sunday Afternoon ARES Net - Keep up with Check-Ins with a check mark instead of writing out call signs!
Two forms are available to keep up with the operators who check-in on the Sunday afternoon ARES net. One form covers the local repeaters only, and one form covers all of the repeaters that are used. Click below to download the pdf version of the forms. E-mail Mike B. - KX4YZ at KX4YZ@YAHOO.COM if you want the Excel versions.
SHOPPING/PLANNING NOTES FOR RASPBERRY PI OR OTHER COMPUTER SOLUTIONS TO BE USED FOR HAM DIGITAL MODES - By Jerry Rice - KB9V
We enjoyed another presentation by Jerry Rice - KB9V, at our most recent Club meeting. Jerry's presentation focused on JS8 Call, but also dealt with using similar setups to do FT8, FT4, APRS, WinLink, and other digital modes. Follow the LINK HERE to see a comprehensive writeup that Jerry has now provided to guide us in what equipment and accessories are needed for these modes, selection of desired mode of operation, configuration for those nodes, and so on. He has likewise provided helpful internet links to assist in understanding and implementing these modes. This is powerful and helpful information. Click the link above to see the file.
